4 Months Eve!

Mister Bruce is turning 4 months tomorrow! He's getting so big :) I didn't realize how much he had grown until I compared a video i took today and one from almost 2 months ago! I am so delighted with him. Bruce has made my world so much better! It's so gratifying.  He is so smart and such a good boy!

12 Weeks

During our last vet visit, we expressed our concern about the struggles we've been having with potty training. I was kind of boggled with what the vet assistant told us. She told us that pretty much until dogs reach 12 weeks, they don't really have a full understanding and control of whats going on around them. The vet suggested we take Bruce out every hour and give him 2 meals a day, rather than 3.  Now that he's getting bigger the 2 meals should work out fine.  And let me tell you, we haven't had to lock him in the kitchen for going on 3 days now! This is huge! Very amusing because he just hit 12 weeks too and his comprehension of commands has increased immensely.  It's kind of funny. He grew from 3.5 to 6lbs between visits and he's just getting bigger! :) I love this pup very much and I'm so glad we decided it was time to get him!

Bruce's Trip to the Park!

Since it was a beautiful day today (despite the extremely foggy start) we took Bruce to the park nearby and had a picnic! We stopped at Panera Bread and were on our way! We tried to let Bruce sit upfront with us, but he was so excited, he just got too squirmy.  He had to go back into the crate :(

Once at the park Bruce was SO excited. They pipe in the radio through ground speakers and every time we passed one he got all curious and sniffed them.  He would have run all over that park if we let him.  He did meet another puppy just his age and they got to play a little bit.

The most amusing thing that happened was actually on our way back to the car.  We had parked by a hill and we were coming down the hill to get back.  Bruce was NOT all about it.  It took a little encouraging, but in the end he found out it was FUN to run down the hill!! He did it again and again! I got a video of it!

The Housebreaking Report.

Hello! It's been a full week since I've had a chance to blog, and 4am is the time I have to do it! (ughh!)

Bruce has been learning by leaps and bounds.  But everyday is a new day and it will either be a good day or bad day. This is usually just in regards to housebreaking, but can also go for biting.  He's definitely an ankle biter.  But he's a corgi... they're bred to ankle bite!  He's usually pretty good.  Often he'll start going for a toe, maybe even put his mouth on it, then he'll back away. Sometimes he'll need a discouraging "Bruuuuuce." and he'll get the picture.

Housebreaking is so frustrating sometimes. Like I said, he has good days and bad...bad days. I don't think we've gone through a day without him at least peeing on the mat, but days he only does that (and goes outside, of course) are the good days.  Other days, he'll go to the bathroom again in the kitchen (or heaven forbid the living room) right after we take him out! Thankfully, when he's in the living room, we pay enough attention to him to keep him from peeing, but the occasional poop escapes.

Bruce has visited my parents house (about 30 minutes away) twice now and the first time he was great. Not one accident! We took him out every two hours, and he was great.  But this second time around he had a few pee-accidents despite us taking him out every time he barked, so that was more than a little frustrating.

The best thing about taking Bruce to my parents house is that they have a YARD.  We can let him run around without his leash, and we can run around and he'll run to us.  It's really great. He loves it!  Yay for that corgi loyalty!

I leave you with Bruce's two new shirts:  my favorite is the hoodie, but he looks very smart in his turtleneck sweater as well :)  And goodness look at all the toys in these pictures!

Sleepy Puppy

I continue to love my walks with Bruce.  Not only is he more frequently doing his "business" outside (for which we give verbal praise and cuddles, more so than treats) but there are a few of the complex staff who just love him. On monday one of the staff told me that meeting Bruce brightened up their monday blues. :) He also met a big ol' dog on a walk and they sniffed each other and Bruce was very intrigued!

Since we found that the milkbones are a little too tough for his puppy teeth, I bought him a chewy treat instead. Cloud Star Chewy treats.  They're adorable! They're shaped like little gingerbread men! Bruce got one yesterday because he was a very good boy. He loved it!

Yesterday was a big day for Bruce! He had his first vet appointment! He did great.  He played with the "nurse" while she asked us questions, and he fell asleep in the doctors arms! Completely zonked right out! How many people can say that?  I like the doctor a lot and the staff seems great.  I'm not sure if we lucked out or not, but I'm happy we didn't hate them! She gave us our first month of heartworm meds. and told us in the summer we're going to need a stronger flea protection than Frontline, and as it turns out, their flea stuff is cheaper :p so yay! But since we got Frontline, she says it'll be fine for the winter. Apparently fleas have adapted to it, so it's not as effective. Who knew? I got him a new special toy for being such a good boy at the vet. I picked a good one, because it's quickly become the favorite toy!... and an effective pillow!

Today I decided to switch Bruce from his travel crate to his home crate (after all, once he learns to fear the vet, he's not going to like that travel crate anymore!!) I put his lobster blankie in the crate just to make sure he's not going to mess in there, but if he does good today, we're going to try putting in the awesome argyle pillow, which will be much more comfy for sleeping.

One of these days I'm going to get a pic of him awake.

Bruce is slowly finding his voice too.  But I think he's been encouraged from the other dogs in the complex who bark at him through the window and he tries to bark back.  It's adorable.  Hopefully I'll be able to catch a video of it soon.

Curb Hopping

I had today off, so this morning I took Bruce for a nice long walk.  In our apartment complex there are a long of sidewalks, but they all end eventually, and Bruce was scared of the curb.  He didn't think he could go up onto them or down. I tried to encourage him, and eventually he would jump down.  :) in my opinion, he did very well. Unfortunately, I wore him out!! Poor pup has been napping on and off all day.
